HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION OF GREATER KANSAS CITY APPROVES OVER $1.6 MILLION
IN APPLICANT DEFINED GRANTS TO 10 AGENCIES

KANSAS CITY, MO – At its November 19 Board of Directors meeting, the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City (HCF) approved its final round of Applicant Defined Grants for 2009, awarding $1,620,796 to 10 organizations who strive to eliminate barriers to quality health and promote healthy lifestyles.

HCF awarded the following grants:

  • $75,000 to Ozanam to provide mental health treatment to juvenile offenders and youth transitioning out of the juvenile justice system.
  • $69,000 to Swope Health Services for its Medicaid Appeals Project with Legal Aid of Western Missouri.
  • $62,966 to Pathway to Hope to offer support services for individuals and families suffering from a mental illness.
  • $60,000 to Mid-America Regional Council for its Safe Travel – Buckle Up KC Kids/Safety Ambassador Program, which works toward ensuring children are safely and properly restrained in motorized vehicles.
  • $49,846 to Westport Cooperative Services Inc. for its Medicare Assistance project , which navigates Medicare coverage for seniors and disabled persons.
  • $40,000 to Cornerstones of Care to pay for organizational development and communications consultation.
  • $37,500 to Healthy Families Counseling and Support for its Bravehearts Program for Dads, a program designed to engage fathers, promote active fathering and reduce the incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • $32,754 to Lexington R-V School District for its Brighter Futures Consortium, which provides mental health treatment to almost 300 children and families throughout the school district.
  • $30,000 to the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project to provide emergency assistance, case management, referral and advocacy services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender victims of violence.
  • $25,000 to National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence to provide counseling and referral assistance to adults and children.

 

In 2009, HCF funded a total $4 million in Applicant Defined Grants (ADG). Applications are currently being accepted for 2010 funding. Proposals are accepted and reviewed monthly.  To learn more, visit www.healthcare4kc.org
